The Metis Nation – Saskatchewan has filed a claim against NexGen Energy Limited in Court of Queen’s Bench. The MN-S alleges NextGen is in breach of its obligations under the Study Agreement signed between the two parties. MN-S wants a declaration that the company is in breach of obligation to negotiate an Impact Benefit Agreement in good faith and on a best efforts basis; an injunction restraining NexGen from filing its draft environmental impact statement in respect of the Rook 1 Project; as well as damages and costs.
Leonard Montgrand, Regional Director of the MN-S Northern Region II says, “The Project is going to be huge and will impact our communities, culture, lands, and rights for generations.”
NexGen says it has the most significant land position the southwest Athabasca Basin in Saskatchewan, where it holds over 209,000 hectares. The company says the portfolio is considered to be among the most prospective uranium properties known.
