The Saskatchewan NDP says the provincial government needs to stop hiding the cost of fixing Saskatchewan’s crumbling schools.
In October of last year, the official opposition requested the cost of needed repairs and the average Facility Condition Index for each school.
Education Critic Carla Beck says the FCI was released but the Ministry’s numbers for how much it would cost to get each division’s schools in order was not.
The Privacy Commissioner attempted to get the information and released a report last Friday saying the Government had no valid reason for withholding the information from the public and it was recommended it be released in its entirety, but Beck says that hasn’t happened yet.
She says with the added costs from COVID-19, the Sask Party government needs to be transparent about the real costs to fix the schools that need it.
