COVID-19 shut down theatre across the world, but Dancing Sky Theatre in Meacham is making a return this month in a reinvented way.
Angus Ferguson, artistic director and co-founder, says with the pandemic shutting down shows this summer, they decided to build an outdoor ampitheatre and custom fire pit in the village Meacham.
Ferguson says in Saskatchewan, when the weather is good people love to have a fire, talk and tell stories, and that’s what the shows will be all about. He says they’ve invited storytellers to tell the tales of people who might have walked the very land the ampitheatre was built on.
The physically distanced shows, he says, will include tales from Indigenous storytellers, homesteaders and recent newcomers to the prairies.
Fireside Stories starts Thursday and runs until September 20th in Meacham.
After it’s rural run, the show will move to Saskatoon for performances on the brand new Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan site, starting September 22nd.
