The Moose Jaw Warriors have the brooms out while the Saskatoon Blades will attempt to channel what’s working for the Toronto Raptors as early as Wednesday night.
Cordel Larson’s centring feed glanced off Atley Calvert and past Nolan Maier at 9:40 of overtime as Moose Jaw out-lasted the Bridge City Bunch 3-2 Tuesday, giving the Warriors a 3-0 lead in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference quarter-final. Moose Jaw can complete a reversal of what happened three years ago when the Blue and Gold swept the Warriors in an opening round W-H-L playoff series when Game 4 is played Wednesday evening at SaskTel Centre. Moose Jaw’s attempt at nursing a 2-1 lead since early in the second period was foiled by a Brandon Lisowsky power play goal with 44.5 seconds remaining in the third period and Maier on the Blades’ bench for an extra attacker. Jayden Wiens notched a man advantage marker in the first period to give Saskatoon their first game-opening goal of the series, only to have Eric Alarie and Martin Rysavy respond before five minutes elapsed in the second period for a 2-1 Warriors’ lead. The Blades will attempt to emulate what the N-B-A’s Raptors are doing in their current opening round series with Philadelphia. Toronto has fought back to trail the 76ers 3-2 in the best-of-seven after Philly won the first three games. Saskatoon will try to stave off elimination for the first time Wednesday against Moose Jaw.
