Sixteen park spaces have been renamed in Prince Albert after Veterans and community leaders.

This was a year-long process undertaken by the City of Prince Albert in partnership with the Royal Canadian Legion and the Anavets.

Twelve parks are named after veterans, and four after elective officials. The City of Prince Albert says the steel is sandblasted, and oxidation causes the natural patina finish. If any graffiti is placed on the signs in the future, it will ground off, and the finish will reappear. The City says the decision to go with this finish was made to match the natural setting of the parks.

To distinguish the signs which were named after veterans four red poppies were placed on the signs.

Jody Boulet, Director of Community Services, says the City is proud to recognize the Veterans and elected officials that made major contributions to our community in this way by naming these park spaces after them.

The signs are installed at the following locations:
Norman Henderson Park – River Street West and 16th Avenue West
Emile Highway Park – River Street West and 4th Avenue West
Lee Atkinson Park (formerly Midtown Park) – 9th Street East and 6th Avenue East
Steven Ross Park – River Street East and 8th Avenue East
Don Cody Park – River Street East and 11th Avenue East
Eldon Lautermilch Park – River Street East and 14th Avenue East
George Sutherland Park (formerly Agnew Park) – Agnew Street
Thomas Settee Park (formerly Crescent Heights Park) – Cook Drive
Glenn Martin Park (formerly Davis Park) – Davis Street
Nelson Park (formerly Longworth Park) -Sibbald Crescent
Albert E. Gosselin Park (formerly Erickson Park) – Erickson Crescent
John Hall Park (formerly Barton/Coombe Park) – Barton Drive
Loyd Smith Park (formerly Dent Park) – Dent Crescent
Amy Meadows Park (formerly Hogeweide Park) – Hogeweide Drive
Myron Kowalsky Park (formerly Southwood Park) – Southwood Drive
Edwin G. Laird Park (formerly Muzzy Drive Park) – Muzzy Drive
