An RM between Moose Jaw and Swift Current, a construction company and two individuals have been fined after illegally disposing of demolition waste. A news release from the province says the RM of Wheatlands, Morsky Industrial Services and Parkbeg-area landowners, Dale Young and Aaron Lambert, pleaded guilty to charges under the Environmental Management and Protection Act and are facing fines and surcharges totaling $70,000.
A caller to the Turn In Poachers and Polluters line reported unlawful burning near the community of Parkbeg, last December. Conservation officers found that several homes had been demolished and the waste was hauled to two properties. At one, materials were dumped in a pit and burned, including toxic materials like asphalt shingles, painted lumber and other construction waste. The concrete foundations were dumped at the second site. All the money from the fines go to the province’s Impacted Sites Fund.
