The Saskatchewan NDP says the cost of rent seems to be on the rise, but only in Saskatchewan.
According to the August 2025 Rentals.ca Rent Report, rent costs are up 2.9 per cent in Saskatchewan, but down in every other province, and down by 3.7 per cent nationally.
April ChiefCalf, Saskatchewan NDP Critic for Housing says, “We’re hearing from seniors, young families and so many others who have had their rent jacked up by 20, even 30 per cent in one year.”
She adds that without some form of rent control, corporate landlords will continue to increase rents, for example, 30 per cent on Saskatchewan seniors.
The NDP release continues that British Columbia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island and Ontario have already implemented rent control measures to protect tenants and maintain housing affordability.
They call on Saskatchewan to do the same.
