The recommendation from an impact study on the closure of the Saskatchewan Transportation Company is to bring the service back.
Co-author of the report from the study, Jacob Alhassen is a USask Ph.D. student with the Department of Community Health and Epidemiology.
He says over the last year 100 people have been interviewed from 15 different communities and focus group discussions have been held with stakeholders.
The study’s findings are that the closure of STC in the spring of 2017 has had many negative effects.
Alhassen says it has isolated many small communities and cost the health system money.
He explains that vaccines, medical equipment and blood products used to be transported by bus, but now alternatives need to be found and sometimes medications arrive frozen in the winter or too hot in the summer.
The report calls for an audit of the affects the closure of STC has had on the health care system.
The virtual forum begins at 7 Monday night.
