People are driving older vehicles, longer in Canada. Statistics Canada says the number of motor vehicles registered in the country increased 1.8 per cent in 2019. At 35.7 million, it is the largest number of vehicle registrations ever recorded. That’s despite the second consecutive decline in new registrations. That means, the motor vehicle fleet is aging in Canada. The light motor vehicle segment accounts for roughly two-thirds of the total. This includes passenger cars, light trucks, and vans. The highest growth in registrations were in the largest provinces. Ontario’s increase was 2.1 per cent. Saskatchewan’s was 0.3 per cent.
