For those who took in the Saskatoon Rotary RibFest this summer, some of the proceeds from that event are going to St. Frances Cree Bilingual School to help with buying computer equipment. For the past 3 years, the Rotary Club of Saskatoon Nutana has donated $10-thousand for a total of $30-thousand.
Principal Darren Fradette says it really helps with their budget, especially since they are a growing school. The money goes to purchasing iPads and keeping the technology up-to-date with Cree language, literacy and math instruction programs. Fradette says the school grows every year to the point where they have had to move the Grades 6 to 9 students to a separate building.
In the last provincial budget, the Greater Saskatoon Catholic School Division was given some pre-planning funding for a new school where all the students can be together. Fradette says the next step is working with the government to get the green light for a new school build.
Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 5 students are at the school’s original location on McPherson Avenue while Grades 6 to 9 students are at a previously de-commissioned school on Bateman Crescent.
