There are heat warnings today in seven provinces and two territories, and the stifling temperatures show no signs of letting up anytime soon.
Environment Canada’s heat and air quality statement map shows most of Alberta covered under a heat warning — as well as a sliver of Saskatchewan covering the community of Lloydminster. Temperatures are expected to be near 30 degrees today, before returning to seasonal on Monday. Even in Canada’s north the weather is scorching, with communities in Yukon, including Whitehorse, Pelly and Watson Lake expected to remain above seasonal into next week. These very high temperatures could pose a heightened risk of illnesses such as heat stroke or heat exhaustion and Environment Canada is warning residents of these areas to keep hydrated and try to find a cool place to stay.
