The Kenney fire is still burning west of Lac-La Ronge and the Alstead fire burning northeast of Ile-a-la-Crosse are the only two fires classified as out of control in Saskatchewan today with 29 wildfires burning in the province as of Monday morning.
Much of Alberta, British Columbia, the Northwest Territories and Yukon are under heat warnings and special weather statements due to wildfire smoke. In Saskatchewan Monday began as a rare morning so far this summer without a single alert from Environment Canada.
Meanwhile, the Weather Network is reporting that Canada’s far north recorded its hottest temperature ever on Saturday afternoon. Fort Good Hope, N.W.T., registered a high temperature of 37.4°C on Saturday afternoon. Saturday’s high temperature in Fort Good Hope eclipsed the community’s previous all-time record of 35.0°C back on July 5, 1998. Residing at about 66.26°N, the community is just a few kilometres south of the Arctic Circle.
