A Canadian soldier raising funds and awareness about the Wounded Warriors Canada PTSD Support Dog Program begins his thousand kilometre cycling trek today (Fri). Sgt. Rob Nederlof is a mechanic at Canadian Forces Base Shilo, Manitoba. This is his third year for his thousand kilometre trek, with different routes each time. This year’s route begins in Saskatoon and ends in Kenora, Ontario on the 19th. He expects most days he will average between 100 and 125 kilometres.
Nederlof is doing this because he has seen how effective the Support Dog Program can be for people with PTSD. He hopes to raise $10,000 and he notes that the average cost to train a dog is $15,000 and it takes two years, so there is a waiting list for those with PTSD wanting a support dog.
