The provincial government says with Statistics Canada’s most recent report on the latest labour force numbers, Saskatchewan is experiencing some of the highest job growth numbers in Canada. The government says this is just one indicator of the province having the strongest economy in the nation with one of the lowest unemployment rates of five per cent, well below the national average of 6.9 per cent. The provincial government made the announcement on Friday, August 8, 2025, with media at KPCL Dirt Movers and says this is exciting news.
Advanced Education Minister Ken Cheveldayoff says Saskatchewan employers like KPCL lead the nation by creating 22,200 good, full-time, mortgage-paying jobs in July. “Our two biggest cities are experiencing significant growth. Saskatoon added 4300 jobs, and Regina added 5600 jobs last month.”
The Minister says in the Saskatoon region, the unemployment rate is the second lowest amongst major cities in Canada.
He says the province also saw gains in several sectors, including 6500 new jobs in construction, a nearly 15 per cent increase from last July. He said employment isn’t the only area where Saskatchewan is leading the country. In June, Saskatchewan ranked first among provinces in urban housing starts with an 84.1 per cent increase during the first six months of 2025, compared to the same period in 2024, and Saskatchewan has been ranked the top region in Canada for mining investment attractiveness in the Fraser Institute’s annual survey of mining companies.
