The RCMP say their goal is to determine and confirm the identity of the two males seen Sunday in York Landing, Manitoba.
York Landing is approximately 90 kilometres southwest of Gillam which is where the search for 19 year old Kam McLeod and 18 year old Bryer Schmegelsky has been focused. Offiicials describe the terrain as challenging with lots of forest, lots of waterways and muskeg.
RCMP Corporal Julie Courchaine says officers have not made contact with the individuals spotted in York Landing and are not in a position to positively confirm these are the suspects.
The RCMP say the primary routes into York Landing is by ferry and by air and that there is a rail line which runs 25 kilometres south of the community.
Some members of the RCMP who have flooded into northern Manitoba have been re-deployed to the York Landing region including the Emergency Response Team, the K-9 unit, containment team, major crimes and air assets which includes the RCMP’s and the Royal Canadian Air Force Hercules aircraft.
Corporal Courchaine says they have had over 200 tips come in and their goal is to locate and safely apprehend the two teens who are suspects in three BC homicide investigations.
The RCMP say there was a confirmed sighting of the pair in Split Lake prior to the vehicle fire in Gillam and they are urging residents in affected communities to remain vigilant and stay indoors with the doors locked as much as possible.
