Saskatoon City Council will review a variety of options laid out by city administration today (mon) in regards to reducing property tax increases for 2020 and 2021.
Administration is recommending that City Council implement a subsidized fee for civic services associated with special events along adjusting the Major Transportation Funding/Bus Rapid Transit funding plan along with a handful of other options.
In June, a city committee agreed to have administration report back on options for a property tax hike of less that 3.94 per cent for 2020 and 4.17 per cent in 2021.
If City Council approves it at today’s meeting, Fire Station No. 5 on Central Avenue in Sutherland will be a step closer to being moved to the northeast corner of Preston Avenue and 108th Street. Approval is needed from the City and from the Ministry of Advanced Education. The U of S and the Fire Department have already reached an agreement. The approval is for the execution of a long-term land lease agreement with the U of S.
Fire Chief Morgan Hackl says from their studies, they believe moving Station 5 will mean quicker response times for the U of S and Varsity View, while maintaining coverage to Sutherland. This is the second station to be moved. The first, was relocating Station No. 3 from Taylor Street to Clarence Avenue South.
