Workers at DirectWest have voted to strike if necessary. Unifor National President Jerry Dias says, “Crown workers are sending a strong message to Premier Scott Moe: If a 2.3 per cent increase is good enough for MLAs, it’s good enough for public employees.” SaskTel and SecurTek workers voted in favour of strike action earlier this month. Workers at seven Crowns have expired collective agreements. Unifor says, Crown workers are facing the same rising costs as MLAs but are being offered much less than the hike MLAs received. DirectWest is a subsidiary of SaskTel and produces the telephone directory as well as digital advertising. The 50 union members work in Regina and Saskatoon. A mediator has been assigned to the talks and meeting’s may take place this month.
