The Saskatchewan Government is asking for federal cooperation to maximize the number of infrastructure projects that can be completed before the end of construction season.
Deputy Premier Gord Wyant says the province needs Ottawa to agree to move cultural funding for Saskatoon and Regina into its own category or there won’t be any money left for cultural projects in the other 800 municipalities and First Nations communities.
Wyant points out leaving Regina and Saskatoon in the provincial cultural funding category would exhaust cultural funding as work is planned for the Globe Theatre in Regina as well as the Gordie Howe Bowl and Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan site in Saskatoon.
Wyant says the province delayed signing the infrastructure deal with Ottawa until they were able to work in that kind of flexibility to ensure the money is spread around the province.
The deal between the province and Ottawa would see 896-million dollars in infrastructure money spent in Saskatchewan.
