30 thousand petition signatures were dropped in the Prime Minister’s Office on Thursday by Saskatchewan First Nations Activist Charmaine Stick and the Canadian Taxpayers Federation. They want the Trudeau government to enforce the law under the First Nations Financial Transparency Act. Stick has a question for Justin Trudeau, “Why aren’t you standing up for grassroots band members when they’re looking for accountability?” Stick is a member of the Onion Lake Cree Nation in this province. The CTF says Onion Lake has consistently refused to provide financial transparency to its people. Leadership there is defying a court order to publish financial information for 2017 and 2018. The band has been told it faces a fine of $10 thousand if it doesn’t publish within 30 days.
