A donation from a grassroots group of moms whose children have been in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit presented a cheque to the Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital Foundation for $71-thousand for cameras to place above each child, so parents and loved ones around the world can view them whenever they want to make sure they are okay. Neonatologist and member of the Foundation’s board, Laurentiu Givelichian, says the Royal University Hospital NICU is the first in Canada to have these NicView cameras.
They have 20 already and this donation from BloomNICU will mean another 10 can be added. The goal is to have a full contingent of 48 by the time the new hospital opens.
A spokesperson for the charity Bloom In Support of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit says being able to hand over a cheque of this size is amazing and uplifting. Amy Novakovski adds that since they began in 2012, they have raised over $400-thousand for the NICU. BloomNICU also donated $5-thousand for supplies that will help newborns in three northern communities: La Ronge, La Loche and Meadow Lake.
