The Golden South Wind Energy project has gone from an idea on paper to a reality on the ground with the groundbreaking ceremony today (Mon). The Potentia Renewables 200 megawatt project near Assiniboia will have 50 wind turbines, and it comes from SaskPower’s request for proposals to supply energy and environmental credits.
More than 250 people will be employed to construct the project and up to 10 permanent full-time staff will operate it. The facility will eliminate over 500-thousand tonnes of carbon from the electricity grid, which is the equivalent of over 100-thousand cars from the road or half the vehicles in Regina or Saskatoon. It is hoped to be up and running by the end of next year.
