Speeding in the Orange Zone has hit some Saskatchewan drivers in the pocketbook.
The law is that you have to slow to 60 km/h, or the posted speed limit, when passing a highway worker, flag person or highway equipment with lights flashing.
104 tickets were issued for exceeding 60 km/h when passing highway workers or occupied highway.
32 tickets were handed out for exceeding 60 km/h when passing a highway worker or flag person.
One ticket was issued for exceeding the speed limit when passing occupied highway equipment and one ticket for exceeding 60 km/h when passing highway equipment with warning lights in operation.
Police also reported one ticket to a driver for failing to obey the direction of a flag person or peace officer.
SGI describes travelling through a work zone as being in someone’s office. Plus the fines are higher so for example, if your 40 km/h over the limit it will cost you $1008 and 4 demerits off your license.
Law enforcement also reported the following results in July:

- 1,039 distracted driving offences (including 920 for cellphone use while driving)
