In addition to fine tuning preparations for Saturday’s showdown with Ottawa at Mosaic Stadium, Thursday was a day of reflection in Riderville.
Plaza of Honour inductees Neil Hughes and Kerry Joseph talked about the 2007 Grey Cup championship team. It was a season full of memories for Hughes, a Regina boy who joined the team as a free agent. But, the former fullback says aside from lifting the Grey Cup, there is one defining moment that jumps out at him.
“After Kerry Joseph took that big, long run for a touchdown (a 27-yard quarterback draw with less than a minute to play, giving Saskatchewan a 31-26 victory over Winnipeg at old Taylor Field) in the Labour Day Classic, that was kind of the turning point…not only of that season but, in my mind, is probably the turning point of the organization,” explained Hughes.
Both Joseph and Hughes are looking forward to the induction and Saturday’s game against Ottawa and a chance for the Green and White to avenge a Week 2 loss. The Riders believe their defense is a much better…more cohesive unit since that 44-41 setback in Ottawa. Game time Saturday is 5 p.m. on T-S-N.
