The Saskatoon Forestry Farm Park & Zoo has made the difficult decision to euthanize Ma, the capuchin (cah poo chin) monkey. Zoo manager Tim Sinclair-Smith says Ma’s health and quality of life continues to decline, and they are no longer able to control her pain.
A capuchin monkey’s average life expectancy ranges from up to 25 years in the wild to 40 years in captivity. Ma arrived at the zoo in 2017 from the U of S when she was about 2 years old, which makes her 47 or older.
Sinclair-Smith says saying goodbye to her next week will be difficult, but it is the humane thing to do.
