Meewasin Trail will be busier and definitely more colourful next Saturday. Meewasin Valley Authority is attempting to break the world record for the longest sidewalk chalk mural, with the public’s help.
Spokesperson Amy Wall says the current record is 5.7 kilometres, so they have mapped out 6 kilometres along the trail and are inviting everyone to register to become a chalk artist. She explains the official rules are it has to be one discernable picture, so the theme will be to reflect what you see in the Meewasin Valley, whether it’s the plants, the scenery, landmarks, animals or the activities.
The MVA has 18-thousand pieces of chalk ready to go. There are 6 stations along the route, so when you register ahead of time you can choose which area of the trail you would like to colour with chalk. You can register to participate or to volunteer on Meewasin’s website or Facebook page.
This attempt to break the world record is one of the celebrations for Meewasin’s 40th anniversary.
