It was a long discussion at City Council on Monday about the Low Emissions Community Plan with council agreeing to public consultation, as the next step. There were 17 speakers scheduled and over 20 written statements from the public about the 40 actions over different phases of time with the ultimate goal of reducing emissions by 80 per cent of 2014 levels by 2050. One of the speakers, Chris Guerette, with the Saskatoon & Region Homebuilders’ Association wants to see more collaboration and believes that having incentives for homeowners for retro-fitting their homes is the way to go as opposed to possibly mandating changes. She also suggested checking with the National Research Council which determines the national building code, otherwise City Administration may be taking on work that is already being done nationally.
