A report from Angus Reid institute shows a significant number of Canadians aged 55 and older are struggling to afford prescription medications. One in five older Canadians face major issues and a full majority have at least some trouble getting the care they need in a timely manner. One in six Canadians in that age group say they or someone else in their household have taken prescription drugs in a way other than prescribed because of the cost.
Cost, as a barrier to prescription drug access is highest in Atlantic Canada, Alberta and Manitoba at roughly one in five, or about 20 per cent. Saskatchewan residents are least troubled by cost at 11 per cent.
