There were 2 fights at the Saskatoon Correctional Centre on Monday leading to a lockdown, which remains in place. A spokesperson for the Ministry of Policing and Corrections says 4 inmates were injured and have been treated. One of the incidents happened in the yard and another in one of the units.
The Saskatoon Police Service is investigating and the Ministry of Corrections and Policing will do its own review.
Last week, one of the suspects charged in connection to the death of Tiki Laverdiere who is on remand at the jail, Brent Checkosis, was stabbed with a homemade knife and seriously injured. Checkosis along with Jesse Sangster and Mavis Takakenew are charged with accessory after the fact to murder. Nikita Cook, Shayla Orthner, Danita Thomas, Soaring Eagle Whitstone and Nicole Cook are charged with first degree murder and kidnapping.
Laverdiere had been in the North Battleford area for a funeral and never made it back to her home in Edmonton. Her body was later found outside of North Battleford.
