The 37 year old man fatally shot during an incident involving the Wadena RCMP on Tuesday afternoon has been identified by his family as Lucien Silverquill.
RCMP officers responded to a home on the Fishing Lake First Nation about a man causing a disturbance outside a home who had a knife. Police say the person who called in knew the man.
Two officers responded and shortly after they arrived, at least one of them discharged a firearm, injuring Lucien Silverquill. First aid was performed, but Silverquill died. As per protocol, the 2 officers were removed from the scene as soon as they could be relieved by other officers.
Moose Jaw Police have been asked to conduct an external investigation and the Saskatchewan RCMP has also requested the Ministry of Justice appoint an independent observer to assess the quality of the investigation.
