So far, the City of Saskatoon has recovered about $380,000 of the $1-million-40-thousand dollars lost in an electronic fraud scheme. That leaves about $660-thousand still left to recover. The City says the vast majority of the remainder has been frozen or locked down by court order. Interim Chief Financial Officer Clae Hack says recovery of this money is a top priority.
Someone impersonated the CFO of Allan Construction by email and requested a change in banking information. The City complied and the next payment intended to go to the contractor went into the fraudster’s bank account. The money was for the ongoing construction on the Sid Buckwold Bridge.
