Meewasin Valley Authority uses grazing sheep as one of its conservation efforts and the flock will be ‘dining’ at the Beaver Creek Conservation Area at various times over the next month or so.
Meewasin spokesperson, Renny Grilz, says today (Fri) through Sunday, there will be a sheep stock dog demonstration at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
Shepherd Jared Epp will use his well trained border collies to move the sheep around, and the public is welcome to come and watch.
The sheep will be back at Beaver Creek September 13th to 20th and October 1st to 4th.
Grilz says grazing helps to return the land back to the way it would be when bison were roaming through the prairies.
It enhances native wildlife habitat for grassland birds and species at risk and manages invasive species including non-native grasses.
Meewasin has been using grazing to help conserve the land and its wildlife for the past 15 years.
