Rescue on the Prairie puts the fun in fundraiser for STARS air ambulance employees. The 5th annual was held on Thursday at a remote location about 25 minutes from Saskatoon by vehicle, but spokesperson Mark Oddan jokes that it’s much quicker by helicopter. He says it’s a day the staff looks forward to.
More than $360-thousand dollars was raised this year, with over $2-million raised in the previous 4 years. Oddan explains that Rescue on the Prairie takes 5 community leaders to an undisclosed location where they have to raise enough money to secure a flight back.
They are tasked with raising $50-thousand each by contacting their networks and then there are also some fun challenges along the helicopter ambulance theme to raise some more money donated by sponsors.
STARS transports the critically ill and injured and also offers hands-on training to rural medical providers.
This year’s participants:
Janna Dutton, franchisee, Tim Hortons
Tereen Mowrey, account executive, corporate services, Henderson Insurance
