As the idea of solar power begins to take root in Saskatchewan with the number of participants growing exponentially, there is a bit of a delay for new SaskPower solar customers. Spokesperson Joel Cherry explains that there is a shortage across North America for some of the components that go into the bi-directional meters. These meters measure both how much power is used in the building and how much is generated for the grid.
For those customers who have passed their final inspection but don’t have their meters yet, they can apply for the rebate before receiving them, and if you don’t receive a meter within 30 business days of a final inspection, SaskPower will pay back a calculated credit.
Currently, there are more than 2-thousand solar power participants. Cherry says back in the 2017/18 fiscal year they added 214 new participants to the program, then the next year it more than quadrupled to 896. This year is projected to increase by another 50 per cent.
