The sounds of jigging and fiddle music, the Michif language, and voices from the past will be heard at Metis Cultural Days which begins today (Fri) and run through Sunday at the Western Development Museum. It’s a co-presentation of the Central Urban Metis Federation and the Open Door Society. CUMFI president, Shirley Isbister, explains that joining all the cultures together a Call to Action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission. Over 16-hundred students will go through the WDM’s doors today (Fri). Some of the workshops include making mini moccasins, a mini paddle or a willow walking stick. Isbister explains the voices from the past is a feature on Saturday where 10 Metis women in history will be portrayed, including Louis Riel’s wife. There is a family dance tonight (Fri) and a pancake breakfast on Sunday and the 3-day event is free to attend.
