Four RCMP officers who have died in the line of duty will be honoured today (Sun) in Regina.
Sergeant Donald Forbes died July 17th 1920 after being thrown from his horse in Battleford. He had been with the force for close to 12 years.
Constable Leo Tyler Francis was a member for close to nine years when he died on July 5th 1996 from injuries after being accidently crushed between a police car and motor home in New Brunswick.
Constable Gerald Fortis died on Christmas day 1997 when his police car lost control on an icy road and hit a concrete pillar near Chilliwack B-C. He had served for close to seven years.
Superintendent Dennis Edward Massey had been with the RCMP for over 33 years when his police car collided with a tanker truck in Calgary on December 18th 2002.
Their names will be added to the RCMP Cenotaph, Honour Roll Book and Memorial Wall, bringing the total to 243 since the creation of the North-West Mounted Police in 1873.
