City Councillors spent a few minutes Monday morning talking about frozen water service connections following a cold February that helped contribute to a total of 271 frozen connections so far this year.
City administration was seeking approval from the city’s environment and utilities committee to make a budget adjustment of $500 thousand dollars from sanitary trunks to water distribution.
The committee voted unanimously in favour of the transfer that will help fund high priority work through the city’s Frozen Services Connections Investigation Program.
That work includes the investigation and repairs on properties that have experienced frozen water service connections on multiple occasions in recent years.
If council votes in favour of the transfer of funds, work will begin in the fall on 45 properties that are rated as high priority.
Total frozen water service connections have varied in recent years with 2014 recording a total 289 and 2016 having only 3 frozen water service connections.
