Intramural sports is back at Saskatchewan Polytechnic campuses that had them before. Last spring the gyms and fitness centres at the campuses in Saskatoon, Moose Jaw and Prince Albert were closed, 7 staff members were laid off and the competitive sports teams were nixed. The recreational facilities were re-opened to students and staff last summer and it was announced a wellness strategy was in the works that includes the 4 pillars of community, body, life and mind, because wellness is more than just fitness. A spokesperson for Sask Polytech says there will be no launch of the wellness strategy. It will be a gradual shift. The latest change is bringing back the opportunity for intramural sports.
