A University of Saskatchewan researcher has been named a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. Irena Creed is considered one of Canada’s most influential water scientists. Karen Chad, USask vice-president research says, “Election to the Royal Society is one of the highest honours a scholar can achieve.” Fellows are peer-elected as among the best in their field and are called upon by governments, non-governmental organizations, and Canadians on matters of public interest. She was asked by the U.S. Environmental Protection agency to critique proposed legislation aimed at helping protect freshwater ecosystems and co-chaired the Global Expert Panel on Forests and Water that made recommendations to the United Nations. Creed will be inducted at a special ceremony in Ottawa on November 22nd.
