The value of building permits plummeted 18 per cent in Saskatchewan in July. Of the provinces, only Newfoundland and Labrador, and Nova Scotia recorded larger drops. Nationally, there was a rise of three percent. Non-residential permits in Saskatchewan fell about 24 per cent and residential was down 10.6 per cent. Year-to-year, the value dropped 15.4 per cent here. Nationally there was a rise of less than one per cent. The total value in Saskatchewan was $123.2 million. In the Saskatoon census metropolitan area, the value of permits fell about 14 per cent from June. The national average for CMAs was a gain of 4.2 per cent. Year-to-year, the value in Saskatoon fell about seven per cent. Nationally it fell just under one percent. The total value of permits in Saskatoon in July was $63.4 million.
