Saskatchewan’s new Lieutenant Governor will be formally installed tomorrow (thurs). Prime Minister Justin Trudeau named Russel Mirasty to the position. He is a member of the Lac La Ronge Indian Band, and had a 36 year career with the RCMP. He was the first Indigenous person to command a division of the national police force. His appointment follows that of the former Lieutenant Governor, W. Thomas Molloy, who passed away in July after a battle with cancer. Mirasty will serve for a term of at least five years.
Tomorrow’s ceremony will include his investiture as the Chancellor of the Saskatchewan Order of Merit, and will give the opportunity for Mirasty to share with the people of Saskatchewan some of his priorities for his mandate.
