Statistics Canada says the consumer price index in August was up 1.9 per cent compared with a year ago. The move came after a year-over-year increase of 2.0 per cent posted in July. Economists on average had expected a reading of 2.0 per cent for August. Saskatchewan’s inflation rate dropped from 2 per cent to 1.9. Four provinces were lower. Saskatoon fell to 1.7 from 1.9. Of 16 cities surveyed, 7 had lower numbers. Regina rose to 1.7 from 1.6.
