He has been a paramedic for 22 years. He was the first designated critical care paramedic in the province, which is the highest of the 4 levels of training in the field. He worked as an advanced care paramedic at Royal University Hospital for 11 years and he served on the code/outreach team at Saskatoon City Hospital. Currently, he is a paramedic with STARS and is also the manager of the Emergency Department at RUH. These are some of the reasons Jason Trask has been chosen as the Paramedic of the Year by the Paramedic Association of Canada. One night that was a challenging one in his career was the night of the Humboldt Broncos bus crash. He was wearing his manager hat at the time and says it was the biggest medical response event he has ever been a part of. He saw first hand all the excellent care the paramedics and other emergency teams provided. Trask says paramedics see a lot of tragedy, but there are also times of triumph. For instance, when a patient comes back from a cardiac arrest or when you help to deliver a baby. The expo and conference welcomes over 500 paramedics from around the world. It begins today (Thurs) and runs through Saturday with the awards gala tomorrow night.
