While answering questions about SaskPower’s net metering program capped, the provincial NDP Leader also commented on a few other issues including the news that pictures have been revealed of the Prime Minister in brown and black face. Ryan Meili agreed with the federal NDP Leader’s response. Jagmeet Singh says Trudeau’s actions made a mockery of some people and now some may be reliving the pain of past racist experiences.
Meili says people will have to make up their own minds about whether to accept Justin Trudeau’s apology. He says the message needs to be that we are a country where people will be treated with dignity and respect no matter their background. Meili would like more conversations around helping people think beyond the intentions of their actions and instead thinking more widely about the impact of those actions.

The provincial election came up in conversation as well, because two provincial ridings are without their SaskParty MLAs as they campaign in the federal election – Warren Steinley represents Regina Walsh Acres and Corey Tochor for Saskatoon Eastview. Meili says the contituency offices are closed and there is no one to answer the concerns of residents. The NDP would have like to have seen a by-election but Premier Scott Moe has said it would cost $700-thousand the election is just over a year away.
