Saskatchewan’s Minister of Social Services believes the final two residents will be moved out of the Valley View Centre in Moose Jaw next Tuesday. Paul Merriman was in the north end of Saskatoon Wednesday for the opening of a new Light of the Prairies home for people with intellectual disabilities. Two of the former Valley View residents are among four who will reside in the home receiving just under 490-thousand dollars in annual funding from the province. Merriman says the relocations are based on the needs of each resident with the goal of providing a safe environment allowing them to thrive in their new surroundings. The minister stresses being close to family is important including access to other former residents they have developed family-like relationships with. The province announced the closure of the Moose Jaw home in 2012 and had hoped to have all residents moved out in 2016. Merriman says they are ahead of the final amended plan to complete the relocations by the end of the year. The province budgeted 3.2 million dollars this year for the transition of residents from Valley View.
