The twinning of Highway 7 around Vanscoy is almost done, meaning the double lanes will be completely open to traffic in the next week or so. Health Minister and MLA for Rosetown-Elrose, Jim Reiter, says the project began with 9 kilometres of twinned highway between Saskatoon and Vanscoy, then around 13 kilometres east of Delisle to Vanscoy, and it concludes with this latest section around Vanscoy.
Highway 7 from Calgary to Saskatoon has seen about a 20 per cent increase in traffic over the past 10 years. Along with the twinned highway, there are now passing lanes between Delisle and Kindersley. Reiter explains that the highway is a key trade route for the province and these projects help to improve safety. He believes passing lanes between Kindersley and the Alberta border will begin next year.
The federal government provided $27.5-million toward the $66-million twinning project.
