SaskPower Minister Dustin Duncan says a review of the Net Metering program will be conducted by SaskPower over the next couple weeks to determine its future and that he hasn’t seen any of the options yet. When the program was launched last November, the government stated they’d accept applications until SaskPower reached a cap of 16 megawatts, or until the final date of November 30th, 2021 whichever came first. But now the program has stalled after the cap of 16 megawatts was reached last week, applications are no longer being accepted, and residents are wondering why the cap was reached so soon. NDP MLA Trent Wotherspoon described Monday’s announcement from the government about a review on Net Metering as “amateur hour at the Legislature”. Wotherspoon feels the decision the government has made to stop applications for the program needs to be reversed. He added that the Sask Party is failing an industry that is growing, and a power source which is affordable, sustainable, creates jobs and reduces emissions.
