The goal is to have Optimist Hill at Diefenbaker Park open by mid-November. That’s from Co-Chair Joe Van’t Hof. He says he would like to see the second year for the hill kick-off sometime in and around that period, although he says it’s ultimately up to mother nature when Optimist Hill will start welcoming the public to start snowboarding and skiing. Over the summer, more trees were planted and the new toboggan area is ready to go after not being ready for the hill’s grand opening earlier this year. Van’t Hof says they also bought more equipment for rentals including skies, snowboards, poles and boots. The co-chair says getting a second magic carpet lift installed is still a top priority. Van’t Hof hopes to have it installed by the end of the fall. Once the snow falls, Optimist Hill will be open Monday through Friday, 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. and from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays. Optimist Hill opened for it’s first season last February.
