The Saskatchewan government is committing over 53-million dollars for five sets of passing lanes on Highway 39 between Weyburn and Estevan. That means 5 passing lanes in either direction, so 10 passing lanes over all.
Highways Minister Greg Ottenbreit says while it’s not a twinning project, it still vastly increases road safety.
He has heard that some people avoid traveling that road due to safety concerns from all the truck traffic, making it difficult to pass, and for those who do try, it can be risky.
Barring unforeseen circumstances, it’s estimated the twinning work on Highway 39 will be done by the summer of 2021. (CKRM)
