The Jim Pattison Children’s Hospital opens at 6 a.m. Sunday. Patients will be moved from Royal University Hospital in a plan that was months in the making. The process included evaluation of each patient to make sure the necessary staff and equipment are in place for safe transfers. Executive Director of Maternal and Children’s Provincial Programming Carrie Dornstauder says teams will be in place to prepare, move and receive each patient as routes have been mapped out and timed. All in-patient and emergency services will go into effect on Sunday as the adult emergency as well as children’s and maternal services are moved from RUH to the children’s facility. The Saskatchewan Health Authority’s Vice President of Provincial Programs Corey Miller says they have been working an international firm for over a year. Miller says the company called Health Care Relocation has assisted in the transfer of over 500 hospitals and their expertise has been part of a coordinated planning process. Patients’ families will be taken through the facility on Saturday in an effort to reduce the possible stress involved with becoming oriented with a new hospital. The surgical department will begin to move Monday and Dornstauder says it will take weeks to get it and out-patient services fully operational. All clinics are expected to be in place in the new-year as Orthopaedics will be the last to move in January. Dornstauder says more details are available at the Moms & Kids Health Saskatchewan website:
