Hundreds gathered at Civic Square at Saskatoon City Hall Friday afternoon for a Climate Change Rally, one of many taking place across Canada.
Saskatoon Cycles took part in the rally by hosting a slow bicycle ride through the city prior to arriving at Civic Square.
Cathy Watts, Co-Chair of Saskatoon Cycles says cycling can be an alternative from time-to-time instead of driving everywhere.
“It’s not about everyone getting on a bike, but it’s about everyone thinking – re-thinking – things like their transportation. Walking, taking the bus, riding a bike, even…even if you drive, have to drive all the time that’s fine but maybe when you go for that quart of milk you get on your bike for 2-K.”
Watts said they had about 35 people take part in their “slow roll” prior to the rally downtown. Many of the people in attendance for the Cimate Rally also made their way downtown by biking.
A march is also planned for this afternoon (fri) with those outside of City Hall making their way to the Cabinet Office before heading to the Federal Building.
Daniel Hinatseu, a high school student at Walter Murray Collegiate, was one many high school students holding up signs and speaking into megaphones.
He says it’s really cool that rallies were held all across Canada Friday. He adds he is particularly focused on green energy for the future, for technology and making sure that we make renewable and sustainable power.
